Unlike conventional medicine, which focuses on attempting to treat disease once it occurs, we emphasize improving your health in an effort to reduce the risk of pain and illness beforehand. The treatment approach at Afferent Influence goes beyond the traditional, passive protocols in which patients receive just an adjustment, modality, and massage. While that treatment methodology may work for some, patients seeking our help will be taking part in active care. Our primary focus is to help patients eliminate pain, achieve greater levels of activity, and become more functional.
- First, we learn about you. What your daily activities are, how you were injured, and what your future goals are.
- Here, we influence damaged tissue to heal properly, and most importantly eliminate pain.
2. Injury Prevention
- Rather than addressing HOW you got hurt, we are now focusing on WHY.
- Further assessment of adjacent joints, biomechanics, and functional movements give a better understanding of what lead to your injury. Although you may have come in for back pain, the problem is likely coming from another region. Once we can determine the cause, we can now reduce the likelihood of re-injury.
- The final phase involves training the tissue that we have rehabilitated. All of your rehabilitation does you little good if you cannot bring it with you once you’ve left the clinic. Here we integrate what you’ve learned into functional moves and activities of daily living.

Chiropractic medicine specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions that are caused by mechanical dysfunction of the joints, and their effects on the musculoskeletal system. Chiropractors use manipulations to the spine and the extremities to induce motion where restricted movement is experienced. These adjustments improve mobility and relieve pain by restoring normal function to the patient’s body. Some of the common ailments chiropractors treat:
- Neck pain
- Back pain
- Pinched Nerves
- Herniated or bulging discs
- Headaches and migraines
- Hip, leg, knee and foot problems
- Shoulder, arm, and wrist problems
A Chiropractic Manipulation is the controlled movement of a joint, by a licensed Chiropractic Physician, that allows a restricted joint to move with greater ease. This specialized technique uses a low amplitude thrust mobilize the restricted joint and reduce pain by relieving irritation. Manipulation at Afferent Influence is always done out of necessity, rather than habit. Simply, you will not be adjusted unless it’s needed. Based on examination, and palpation of your joint motion, a manipulation protocol will be discussed as your treatment moves forward.
Your initial visit is a friendly consultation, explanation, and treatment of your condition. You’ll start by filling out paper work (located on the website) about your current condition and past health history. We will discuss details about your current condition as well as any related issues that could provide insight into your complaint. You’ll receive an overall assessment of the concern as well a range of motion assessment, postural analysis, joint and muscle testing, and any relevant orthopedic tests deemed necessary. You will also be informed if further testing is needed such as x-rays, blood work, or other forms of advanced imaging. You will then be advised if your condition can be helped here, or it would be more appropriately managed by another health care provider. Your initial visit will likely end with manipulation, rehab, acupuncture/functional dry needling, or a combination of therapies.
This is a question frequently heard in chiropractic offices. My answer to this question is: your treatment and health is always controlled by you. A recommended treatment schedule will be prescribed for your condition, which has been shown to effectively treat your diagnosis. The schedule may range from several visits to a more extensive treatment protocol depending on the severity of your condition and the length of time that you have suffered with your ailment.
Although X-rays are frequently taken upon initial chiropractic consultations, they are not necessary. If, based on examination and nature of your injury, it’s deemed that imaging will be helpful, an outside referral will be made.
